Tea in Oxford

In desperate need of a break from London, a friend and I arranged to go for a day in Oxford on Sunday.

The friend in question, Joel is a graduate of Keble and had an RC clergyman called Keith staying at his place who was also an Oxford graduate and offered to drive us there. So had a pleasant drive there, arriving at 11:40am.

Had a wander around to stretch our legs and then went for Lunch at the Eagle and Child on St Giles. I had suggested the Cafe St Gilles, but Joel pointed out that he didn't want a mid-afternoon coronary. So we tucked into a very nice homecooked roast beef and yorkshire pudding washed down with a pint of bitter.

After Lunch we went round the Bookshops and bric-a-brac/Antique places .. oh and Jack Wills, where the Staff seem to be straight out of Skins.

At 4pm we went for a very nice cream tea at the Grand Cafe. Very reviving, a pot of assam ...

Thence on to Keble College Chapel for Evensong, which turned out to be a Sung Eucharist, with the Assistant Bishop of London. All very pleasant ... the Liturgy was a wee bit modern though.

Sherry in the Common Room afterwards then back to London, sadly ...

February Fun

Went to a cocktail party at the Adam Smith Institute on Tuesday evening. Usual mixture of the the Great & the Good that Dr Pirie & Mr Butler attract. Tried a cocktail and promptly retreated to the wine.

Talked to some interesting people, not least of them being Christine Hamilton, who is a very handsome woman in the flesh and great fun to chat to.

Then off to the NLC for a drink.
