Under the shadow of the axe.

Well, we start to find out soon who is for the chop.

Interesting that a fair amount of people now seem to hope that they get made redundant.

On a lighter noter it is sunny out and I have a dinner to go to tomorrow evening.

Then Vive le weekend !

The Great Golden Orb

It's good to see the see the Sun again .. and three days running no less !

Went to an Adam Smith Reception last night, Jamie Whyte was speaking. Interesting views, but then that is usually what you get at the ASI. Caught up with a few people but was feeling a bit tired so wandered home instead of going to the Feathers with the diehards.

Got home and ended up falling asleep in front of "Shameless".

Just had my first hot cross bun of the season.

The Weather

Do you ever have one of those days where you just want to hibernate ?

It never really seemed to get light properly and as a result I don't think I ever really woke up ...

Lazy Sunday

With my Landlord away in the Cotswolds I was faced with a flat to myself and a day of R&R in prospect. So when an old University pal suggested meeting up to watch the Rugby, I suggested he come round and watch it at Chez Pip rather than a Pub.

So Richard turned up at 2pm, we cooked Bangers & Mash and watched England v France.

What a Game it was ! A mere two weeks after our mauling at the hands of the Irish, we routed the French en route to a Grand Slam. Either the French or Irish will will the Championship (unless we put on about 40-50 points against the Welsh), so it is some consolation to ruin our Gallic Cousins' chance of a Grand Slam ...

After that I made tea and we watched Victoria Wood. Good end to a good day ....

Saturday ~ 10/3/07

Met a friend for a coffee in Soho. "Cedric Diggory" from Harry Potter IV wandered past.

Went on to East London to watch a Rugby match .. was a good game. A quick beer after the game turned into several.

Freaky Friday

Bit hungover today ...

Met my cousin Simon for Dinner at the National Liberal Club. Nice roast beef & yorkshire pud .. washed down with a burgundy, a malbec and a 2001 port .. hence the hangover.

Hardly the greatest of surprises I suppose.

Tea in Oxford

In desperate need of a break from London, a friend and I arranged to go for a day in Oxford on Sunday.

The friend in question, Joel is a graduate of Keble and had an RC clergyman called Keith staying at his place who was also an Oxford graduate and offered to drive us there. So had a pleasant drive there, arriving at 11:40am.

Had a wander around to stretch our legs and then went for Lunch at the Eagle and Child on St Giles. I had suggested the Cafe St Gilles, but Joel pointed out that he didn't want a mid-afternoon coronary. So we tucked into a very nice homecooked roast beef and yorkshire pudding washed down with a pint of bitter.

After Lunch we went round the Bookshops and bric-a-brac/Antique places .. oh and Jack Wills, where the Staff seem to be straight out of Skins.

At 4pm we went for a very nice cream tea at the Grand Cafe. Very reviving, a pot of assam ...

Thence on to Keble College Chapel for Evensong, which turned out to be a Sung Eucharist, with the Assistant Bishop of London. All very pleasant ... the Liturgy was a wee bit modern though.

Sherry in the Common Room afterwards then back to London, sadly ...
